Job Purpose and Impact

As the Senior Capital Project Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in planning, facilitating, and executing capital project engineering initiatives at our Fort Dodge, IA bio-refinery campus. Situated within our corn milling and texturizing solutions segment, the site boasts five distinct departments, offering a diverse and dynamic environment for growth and development.

Your primary focus will revolve around mid to large-scale capital projects, encompassing all stages from design to commissioning. In addition to overseeing construction management, you’ll prioritize safety, schedule efficiency, cost management, and comprehensive documentation.

In this capacity, you will actively contribute to the development and implementation of engineering standards, project management protocols, and provide expert guidance on matters within your engineering purview.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the development of capital project scope, schedule, and budget, adhering to established project management frameworks and best practices.
  • Coordinate staffing and devise plans for construction, commissioning, and start-up phases, collaborating closely with operations for troubleshooting and optimization activities.
  • Undertake process engineering tasks for individual projects as necessary to achieve project objectives.
  • Spearhead equipment specification and procurement processes, including the review and awarding of bid packages for both equipment and labor.
  • Analyze and devise solutions for engineering challenges pertaining to manufacturing equipment and systems, as well as the root causes of component failures.
  • Design and refine manufacturing processes, instruments, and equipment, and conduct product testing to uphold quality standards.
  • Address complex issues independently with minimal supervision, escalating only the most intricate matters to appropriate personnel.
  • Informally mentor and coach early career engineers through hands-on training and project collaboration.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of four years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of eight years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, chemical, ag/biosystems, or related engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated track record in executing large capital projects or managing a portfolio of projects.
  • Prior experience in chemical, food, or a related industry.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically to other network plants and locations in support of capital project endeavors.
  • Desire and capability to work hands-on in a fast-paced, technically demanding plant environment.
