This is a full-time onsite position with paid relocation.

General Purpose: Design and troubleshoot telecommunications network systems supporting electrical system operations. Responsibilities encompass designing and documenting telecommunications equipment, including microwave radios, fiber optic terminals, multiplexers, and network switches. The role involves circuit channelization design and specifying carrier services from telecommunications providers.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in designing data communication systems, wiring schematics, and equipment configurations. Provide system diagrams and scoping for substation, generation, and load interconnection projects.
  • Generate comprehensive documentation for all projects, ensuring regular updates.
  • Draft equipment specifications and manage equipment procurement for projects.
  • Develop job specifications and equipment specifications for contract jobs.
  • Offer technical input for project planning and collaborate with external utility and regulatory agencies to meet jurisdictional requirements.
  • Support compliance efforts aligning with WECC, FERC, and NERC requirements for electronic communications.
  • Undertake any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Engineer 2 Responsibilities:

  • Act as a consultant to other business units to address networking or communications needs.
  • Take ownership of subject matter and/or geographic regions with limited supervision.
  • Serve as a project manager for minor projects or system upgrades.
  • Design and test new telecommunications or network systems as needed.

Engineer 3 Responsibilities:

  • Design major networking or communications systems.
  • Lead systems capacity planning, managing technology changes, and making recommendations for approval by senior management.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in one or more technical domains.
  • Provide technical leadership to staff.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; or equivalent work experience. (Candidates without a Bachelor’s degree require a minimum of two years additional directly related technical experience.)
  • Proficiency in documenting system designs using computer-aided drafting programs or equivalent software.
  • Familiarity with telecommunication systems terms, equipment, functions, and major vendors.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

Additional Requirements for Engineer 2:

  • Three years of telecommunications or networking experience.
  • Proficiency in TDM, packet, microwave radio, and/or fiber optic communication systems.
  • Professional-level knowledge of information technology terms, equipment, systems, functions, and major vendors.

Additional Requirements for Engineer 3:

  • Five years of telecommunications or networking experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of TDM, packet, microwave radio, and/or fiber optic communication systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of information technology terms, equipment, systems, functions, and major vendors.
