Job Requirements:

  1. Possess a permanent license issued by the State Board of Medicine as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  2. Have a minimum of 2 years of experience in adult critical care within the last 5 years.
  3. Demonstrate ICU experience within the last 3 years.
  4. Be registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC); if not registered, must obtain registration within 1 year of the hire date.
  5. Exhibit the ability to work independently, as staff are not closely supervised. The Department Director, Day Supervisor, Evening Supervisor, or Clinical Coordinator will be the points of responsibility.

Primary (Essential) Duties:

  • Provide respiratory therapy (conventional/routine) to patients of all age groups, explaining the purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment.
  • Receive assignments, check patient charts and physician’s orders, set up equipment and administer treatments as ordered.
  • Chart treatment, response, and progress; monitor environmental control systems; deliver and set up equipment; and monitor patients on continuous ventilation.
  • Conduct patient rounds regularly, observing patients, checking equipment, and making necessary adjustments.
  • Solve problems, discontinue therapy as ordered, and remove equipment from patient rooms.

Work Conditions/Hours:

  • 12-hour shifts based on department needs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Permanent license from the State Board of Medicine as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
  • Registration by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC); if registry eligible, must obtain registry within one year of hire.
  • 2 years of experience in adult critical care within the last 5 years; ICU experience within the last 3 years.
  • BLS, PALS (completed within three months of hire), ACLS (completed within three months of hire), NRP (completed within one year of hire).
