Job Details: Purpose of Position: This exempt role involves performing electrical engineering duties for the Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Engineering Department, as assigned by the Manager of Protection & Control Engineering.

Supervision Received: Reports directly to the Manager, P&C Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop engineering designs for medium-sized projects of moderate complexity.
  • Generate and peer-review single line diagrams, communication diagrams, AC and DC schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of material, and cable schedules.
  • Produce cost estimates, project schedules, and execution plans; draft scopes of work for contractors.
  • Develop data sheets and specifications for equipment.
  • Bid engineering and construction services and recommend awards.
  • Demonstrate a strong grasp of symmetrical components and their application in P&C duties, including relay settings and system fault models.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and supervise repair activities as assigned.
  • Assist in training relay technicians for installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures.
  • Coordinate or verify work of outside contractors and/or engineering firms; monitor project progress, change orders, and contractor payments.
  • Represent the client in regional organizations related to relaying activities.
  • Create, organize, and maintain records for assigned oversight areas of the department.

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university is required, with a preference for a power emphasis.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in protection and control applications for electrical power transmission and generation, systems analysis, computer programming, and project and facility management.

Special Certificates, Registrations, Licenses Required:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Engineer Intern status. Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and registration as an EI is preferred.

Environmental Conditions & Safety Concerns:

  • Work is usually performed in an office environment, with outdoor excursions for design, testing, and troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Repair work may be performed outdoors and/or indoors in a high noise/temperature environment, with possible work in confined spaces. Emergency repair work may be required during inclement weather and at any time in any season.
