Job Description: Our company is seeking a talented and motivated Powder Product Development Engineer to support our Specialty Materials Business Unit. This position will be based in Monroe, NC.
Responsibilities: As a Powder Product Development Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:
- Act as the internal/external technical contact for various processes, including atomization, screening, blending, canister design, canister loading, billetization, and testing of powder.
- Create, maintain, and standardize operating instructions, mill instructions, items, part drawings, grades, sample plans, follower sheets, and other quality system documents for powder alloys.
- Develop and maintain technical expertise in powder atomization and processing through modeling and experimentation, technical literature review, best practice exchanges across the company, and attending technical conferences.
- Establish, monitor, and maintain statistical process control (SPC) limits for key products and processes within your area of responsibility.
- Utilize team-based Continuous Improvement tools throughout the manufacturing process of powder products, leading to increased yield, better quality, enhanced safety in the workplace, improved equipment performance, and reduced costs.
- Support powder testing method development, validation, and standardization across facilities.
- Support canister design, validation, and standardization for near-net shape powder products.
- Assist in the certifications of powder orders and shipments with the certification team.
- Support the execution of the company’s Additive Manufacturing strategy in collaboration with the additive manufacturing, commercial, operations, and R&D teams.
- Review customer specifications and support sales teams by approving customer quotes.
- Provide technical support to commercial teams during customer engagements for both on-site and off-site meetings.
- Offer technical support in resolving product and process non-conformances, customer complaints, and process and product data analysis.
- Communicate results to management, operations, colleagues, and customers through written reports and oral presentations in a timely manner.
- Be willing to travel 2-6 times per year.
Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
- B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering, Metallurgy, or Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering or a related discipline, Metallurgy, or Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
- 2 years of process or product engineering experience related to Ni/Fe/Co-base super alloys, titanium, specialty steels, and/or refractory alloys
- Experience in statistical data analysis using JMP, Mini-Tab, or related software
- Working knowledge of powder production, processing, and applications
- Experience in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing methodologies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
