Full-Time Onsite Position with Paid Relocation

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the expansion and maintenance of advanced weather forecasting and situational awareness programs.
  • Act as the primary liaison for meteorological information within the organization.
  • Manage a diverse range of meteorological data to continuously update weather information, enhancing the management of weather impacts on the electric distribution and transmission system.
  • Develop and maintain the annual budget for a 24/7 wildfire operations center, supporting staffing, operational, and technology requirements.
  • Collaborate with various operational organizations and contribute to wildfire mitigation planning.
  • Enhance procedures for monitoring the company’s weather network and associated alerting.
  • Implement process improvements through new technologies to improve real-time and operational forecasts.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operational teams to integrate weather information into fire risk mitigation and community resilience projects.
  • Monitor and report real-time weather conditions to upper management during storm events and major construction operational events.
  • Interview, hire, train, coach, and manage employees.
  • Act as the company’s subject matter expert for all weather-related matters.
  • Integrate meteorological data to provide continuously updated weather information for electric system management.
  • Analyze surface observation data, satellite imagery, NEXRAD Doppler RADAR data, and Numerical Weather Prediction data.
  • Provide short and long-term seasonal weather forecasts for preparedness and resource availability optimization.
  • Collaborate with the company’s energy supply function on weather forecasts to optimize generation asset utilization.
  • Provide weather forecasting data to support power procurement transactions.
  • Represent the company and act as the primary point of contact for all weather-related matters.
  • Oversee the preparation and dissemination of operational weather reports during significant weather events.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Atmospheric Science, Environmental Sciences, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Minimum of ten years operational forecasting experience.
  • Minimum of five years’ direct people management experience.
  • Mastery of theoretical meteorology, including atmospheric dynamics and mesoscale meteorology.
  • Advanced knowledge of fire weather concepts and forecasting techniques.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • High degree of independent initiative, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to review, analyze, and recommend improvements to systems, processes, and measures of performance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in data management skills and understanding of GIS techniques.
  • 24/7 availability to support emergency operations and disasters.

Preferences:

  • Advanced degree.
  • Certified Consulting Meteorologist Certificate.
  • Knowledge of the company’s strategic plan, regulatory and political environment, policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
