Job Description
The objective of the Maintenance Superintendent is to lead a broad range of services that support the plant wide maintenance and production organizations. The Maintenance Superintendent will develop and lead the plant’s maintenance planning and manpower and maintenance on the plant’s process furnaces.
Furnace Quality Assurance: The Maintenance Superintendent is accountable for all aspects of the Furnace Quality Assurance (FQA) department. The FQA department maintains, calibrates, and performs surveys for all of the Davenport’s process furnaces and lab test furnaces. A major aspect of this department’s accountability is to ensure thermal operations meet customer and quality requirements for calibration, surveys and documentation retention and control.
Manpower: The Maintenance Superintendent is accountable to manage the plantwide outage planning and craft manpower/contractor resources that match the business objectives – ultimately ensuring resources are available to perform the work needed safely and cost effectively. This includes but not limited to: setting headcount levels needed for each classification in the plant and allocations within each department, annual evaluation of manpower needs at the plant and within departments, assessing actual manpower utilizations for continuous improvement in planning and cost controls, representing maintenance in Union negotiations for master contracts or local agreements, supporting HR to attain and sustain headcount levels needed for the business, and supporting the administrative side of managing the daily manpower tasks and scheduling. This also includes managing contracted labor, the contracting out process, and leading the plant annual outage scheduling to avoid contractor and in-house resource conflicts.
The Maintenance Superintendent is to be accountable for results within the Thermal Operations department in the areas of Environment, Health and Safety, Productivity, Asset Management, People Development, Cost Control and Quality using ABS systems such as TPM, Kaizen, daily Management, 5S etc.
The Maintenance Superintendent will engage the resources at his/her disposal to meet the department objectives set by the Maintenance and Engineering Manager in support of the business objectives. These objectives will be achieved without sacrificing a spirit of cooperation with other areas.
The Maintenance Superintendent will supervise an area of approximately 12 salaried resources including a Lead Tech, electrical and mechanical technicians, maintenance planners, and maintenance unit supervisors. The Maintenance Superintendent will supervise an area with ~50 hourly resources including electricians and mechanics.
The Maintenance Superintendent will report to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager of DPW & Satellites.
Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution
Minimum of 1 year of experience with machine repair.
Minimum of 3 years of labor relations experience
Minimum of 3 years of department management, including direct supervision for salaried supervisors and responsibility for hourly craft employees
Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing industry experience
Minimum of 8 years of maintenance experience
