Position Title: Maritime Operations Manager

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Maritime experience as Captain or Chief Engineer
  • STCW 11/2 Certificate of Competency (Master Unlimited) or STCW 111/2 Certificate of Competency (Chief Engineer Unlimited)
  • Naval architect or Maritime Engineering degree
  • Excellent IT skills & proficiency in Mac & Windows operating systems & office software
  • Competency with MS Excel and Word

Note: This is a hybrid-land based role.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide 24/7 support as the primary point of contact for Owner/Captain/Crew, ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Set up new clients, implement on-board documentation, standards, and protocols.
  • Implement vessel management software & Safety Management System on-board ISM/mini-ISM vessels and provide guidance to crew.
  • Supervise upkeep of vessel certification & paperwork in liaison with Fleet Administrator, Captains & office.
  • Ensure compliance with Flag and Class requirements.
  • Review regulatory updates and implement changes into department procedures & documentation.
  • Assist with company Flag State audits for compliance with regulations (ISM/ISPS/MLC).
  • Conduct regular audits of vessel software and onboard systems to ensure compliance with ISM, ISPS, MLC & relevant regulations.
  • Conduct on-board internal audits worldwide as required by regulations (ISM/ISPS/MLC).
  • Assist with the development and continual improvement of internal procedures/software tools & vessel management software (BLUE).
  • Facilitate handovers between Captains & Heads of Department.
  • Collaborate with Yacht Account Manager regarding accounting, budgets, and invoice management.
  • Negotiate & control approvals for significant-cost projects in accordance with vessel’s Purchasing Authority.
  • Provide technical consultancy support with vessel surveys & shipyard periods.
  • Provide Vessel Visit Reports to owners on a regular basis.
  • Ensure shipyard/marina agreements are reviewed by insurance and provide support with insurance claim management.
  • Act as corporate liaison with shipyards and vendors to verify and negotiate proposals and contracts.
  • Visit shipyards to assess quality of work and condition.
  • Liaise with sales brokers and Owners regarding operational issues and concerns.
  • Attend industry events, seminars & conferences worldwide as required.
  • Support new business initiatives as directed.

Requirements:

  • Maritime experience as Captain or Chief Engineer.
  • Valid passport for international travel as required.
  • Availability after core business hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • STCW 11/2 Certificate of Competency (Master Unlimited) or STCW 111/2 Certificate of Competency (Chief Engineer Unlimited).

Essential Skills:

  • Previous experience in luxury yachting is highly preferred.
  • DPA designation is highly preferred.
  • Naval architect or Maritime Engineering degree is preferred.
  • Experience with vessels over 100′ is highly preferred.
  • Ability to work fluently with Pages, Numbers, Keynote, and PowerPoint is highly important.
