Responsibilities:
In this role, you will be responsible for:
Championing and promoting adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations, ensuring alignment with corporate policies and statutory requirements.
Serving as a regulatory compliance expert in areas such as OSHA and environmental standards.
Leading or participating in investigations of incidents, including injuries, property damage, near-miss occurrences, and deviations from environmental norms, and collaborating with the operations team to determine effective corrective and preventive measures.
Conducting thorough assessments and inspections to identify potential risks and hazards for employees, proposing and driving actions to mitigate or reduce these risks.
Continuously improving the facility’s systems for monitoring safety and recordkeeping, ensuring strict compliance with company policies and federal regulations.
Assisting the operations team and corporate Safety division in strategizing and implementing proactive safety measures for projects with potential impacts on the facility or personnel.
Crafting action plans for safety initiatives, overseeing the Plant Safety Committee, and reporting progress to the Plant Manager.
Facilitating comprehensive safety, health, and environmental training for all plant staff.
Managing and documenting all necessary records to comply with safety and environmental policies and requirements (Work Notifications, Inspection Records, etc.).
Supporting plant-driven initiatives related to process improvement, waste reduction, and facility enhancements.
Collaborating with environmental data management systems to ensure compliance with all corporate and governmental environmental standards.
Ensuring the proper management and disposal of industrial process wastewaters, solid waste, universal waste, and hazardous materials, with an emphasis on root cause analysis, waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.
Providing valuable input for permitting and abatement strategies for projects that may affect existing air quality permits.
Enforcing strict adherence to safety and environmental policies, procedures, and programs.
Timely completion and communication of safety, health, and environmental metrics and reports.
Assisting in managing workers’ compensation cases.
Serving as the coordinator for EHS-related training programs, including computer-based training (CBT) through SafetySkills.
Qualifications:
To be a strong candidate for this position, you should have:
A bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Prior safety-specific training (e.g., OSHA 30 Hour, Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health).
A minimum of four years of experience in safety and environmental compliance within an industrial setting.
Proficiency in federal regulations governing safety and environmental standards, such as OSHA and EPA regulations.
Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with external agencies and contracted workers.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and other software tools for data analysis, monitoring, reporting, and presentations.
Physical fitness to handle tasks such as climbing stairs and ladders, extensive walking, confined space entry, and exposure to varying temperature environments.
Outstanding communication, training, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated expertise in root cause analysis techniques (e.g., RCCA, 5-Whys).
Leadership capabilities for personnel management, project implementation, team supervision, and follow-up activities.
Analytical acumen for evaluating complex situations and applying effective problem-solving strategies.
The ability to work independently.
Willingness to be on call as required, 24/7.
A willingness to travel occasionally, up to 5%.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include professional certifications in safety, environmental management, or occupational health (e.g., CSP, CIH, OHST, SMS, CEM, CHMM, etc.).
